I took my Broadway-Musical-loving Aislinn to see Mamma Mia a few nights ago so we could have some mother-daughter bonding time. I loved the movie–sucker that I am for musicals and reunion romances. It reminded me of when she and her older sister were little and I used to play ABBA songs while they danced around the living room. It was a highlight for them before bedtime, and Mommy always got to deejay. Can you see it? Two little blonde-haired girls dancing in circles to “SuperTrouper” and “Waterloo”? There were a couple of songs that I’d forgotten, like “Does Your Mother Know that You’re Out?” (the definitive older woman’s mantra, LOL) and……the one in the video below, “When All Is Said and Done.”
Okay, so I was in my teens when the song first came out, and it didn’t have real meaning for me then. Even in my 20’s and 30’s, I somehow missed the meaning of it whenever it resurfaced in my life.
Now, this day, it is a wonderful song of letting go, forgiveness, gratitude, moving forward, honoring, releasing. It’s the kind of song I can sing at the top of my lungs, with a smile on my face and tears streaming down my face.
