Is Narcissistic Personality Disorder Written in the Stars? (Applied Astrology)
Can you look at an astrology birth chart and tell if a person is a narcissist or has narcissistic personality disorder?
Just a reminder that I’m not a professional astrologer, but I very much enjoy it as a hobby and I’ve been studying it for about 11 years.
The short answer is no. At least, not in my experience. However, I have found some rather interesting conjunctions in the natal charts of people I personally know who have either been professionally diagnosed as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) or exhibit the 9 characteristics of NPD.
The chart above belongs to a man I’ve known for 25 years, before I understood that I was an empath. Early in our interactions, we had many discussions of psychology and human dynamics, including an long list of childhood memories and an early diagnosis of NPD that remained unchanged over long years of therapy in adulthood. This man was absolutely charming and charismatic, as you might guess from his Pluto-Venus conjunction 8 Virgo 52 and 8 Virgo 35. This conjunction also meant that, in looking at synastry, or his relationships, I noted that the people of his generation (having the same Pluto) found him extremely intense and…shiny. There are other things in his chart that support the features of NPD but the standout–to me–is his Venus-Pluto pairing. This is beauty/love/romance (Venus) paired with nuclear intensity (Pluto) at the same degree.
Does this mean that anyone with a Venus-Pluto pairing has Narcissistic Personality Disorder? I have no idea. I’m sure Venus-Pluto can manifest in other ways. Most conjunctions have different flavors to them, so why not?
Does this mean that all charming and charismatic people have narcissistic personality disorder? Nope. But many of them are very, very, VERY exciting to be around–I’ve known a few who wanted to have their own cult following…no kidding. Am I saying that all narcissists are charming and charismatic? Oh, most definitely not. From my observations of the narcissists in my life, some are definitely not bigger-than-life personalities except in their own minds.
But I do find the natal charts of narcissists to be very telling.
Here’s another chart, this time of confirmed narcissist I’ve known since I was a teen:
This one manifested in a more behind-the-scenes personality than the previous chart’s owner. While Pluto and Venus are not in a tight orb, the Ascendant in the middle of this trio made for an explosive personality, with the explosions just below the surface. The twelfth house moon in Leo was also an eye-opener but I’ll stick to the similarities in these charts.
In every natal chart I have of narcissists I’ve “experienced” over the last 30 years, there tends to be a conjunction or square of Venus and Pluto OR Venus and Uranus on fewer occasions. I’m not sure if Venus-Pluto oppositions would create the same results: I simply don’t have any charts with that aspect.
I’ve seen these same Venus-Pluto pairings in synastry where the relationship is very volatile (Venus-Pluto conduction or Venus-Pluto square) or even where one of the couple is a stalker or obsessed (usually Pluto opposite Venus).Consider that same energy not between two people but within one person.
For a free natal chart, I recommend you visit astro.com and follow the instructions to create a chart under Extended Chart Selection. (Sorry–I can’t do this for you, but it’s easy for you to do yourself.)
What do YOU think? If you have a natal chart of someone diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, what unique aspects do you see? No names or birthrates of the individual, please, but please comment below.

Here is the chart of a female narcissist 20 august 1949 time 05.50 Nijmegen the Netherlands.
Defenately Sun conjunct ascendant
Thanks for this article. Male friend with narcissist behavior but doubt he has ever been diagnosed – Venus R in 12H Scorp 28.48, square Pluto in 9H Leo 28.38.
“My” narc has 5 planets in the Virgo/Leo -part of his chart. I don’t really know much about interpreting the chart, but it seems like in both of those images above the Virgo/Leo part is well represented. Seems like most of the planets are centered in that area.
He has Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Chiron in Leo and Sun and Mars in Virgo. Pluto in Scorpio, Moon in Aries. Just curious about these things..
The correct answer would be, no!, you cannot find in the chart if a person is an NPD, but you can indeed find the predisposition to become one, or the Karma to be one. I’m not a professional astrologer, but I’m studying charts and the Sun square Pluto, and the Sun square Mars are heavy indicators of narcissism..
I haven’t been doing this long enough to have seen many different charts, but in the charts of one confirmed bipolar person, one BPD, and one person with a very caustic, distancing personality who seems to be very resistant to change, I have noticed certain repeating themes: Saturn square Pluto, Sun square Pluto, Saturn square Venus, two or more quindeciles, and Venus square Mars in the case of the BPD. The two most severe mentally ill people each have both Sun square Pluto and Venus square Saturn.
I’m wondering if these aspects could be considered markers for possible mental illness.
Unfortunately I have decades of experience with a full blown, textbook, piece of crap narcissist.
The ahole has Sun (10 degrees 51) conj Venus (10 degrees 33), in opposition to that conjunction is Pluto (10 degrees 38). Talk about exact, the aholes narcissism can’t get much stronger than that.
A narcissist lacks empathy (Pluto poisons Venus), thus they have to fake it, they’re actors. The piece of crap hides behind the Sun/Venus mask, Pluto is lurking behind the mask.
I think it depends on the level of soul evolution in the person how they handle and express an energy. The most amazing human being and teacher, full of unconditional love & strength I have ever met has sun square pluto exact and venus square saturn. I’ve also got two best friends with exact sun square mars who have hearts of gold, though they can be immature or impulsive it’s innocent.
The most narcissistic relationship I’ve had, with a guy who used up all his friends and basically self-destructed because he couldn’t take responsibility for anything and expected constant hand-outs had venus and mars in leo 12th house, mars square pluto, cancer sun, virgo moon in 12th house opposite neptune. Also a couple of really loose cannons that burnt all their bridges who had major sun-uranus hard aspects. One had a scorpio sun 8th house, the other had a pluto venus opposition. There was another man who was so full of his own self-importance it made me sick. Huge stellium in leo never seen so much leo in any chart.
My mother is a narc. I don’t like labeling, and she is not officially diagnosed, but I’ve spent long long time observing her to conclude. She has Pluto square Venus, so as a long long list of Pluto squares to Mars, Sun, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter. Lilith in her first house in Scorpio. I believe Mars is the one adding in as well. She has Mars square ASC/Uranus.
Idk if you still check this article but my boyfriend that I am on the fence about breaking up with is a huge narcissist. We have been together for 4 years and in fact a lot of my growth and self-discovery in finding out that I am a codependent was a result of this abusive relationship.
He is a Sun: Leo, Moon: Aries, Venus: Leo, Mercury: Leo, and a Mars: Leo. Oh my God. Then his rising is in Gemini which I can definitely see a lot of Geminian mannerisms such as deceitfulness, trying to be slick, gaslighting, manipulation, trying to get out of a situation, and very moody.
I am honestly just overwhelmed by the pain this man has caused me and I am only 25. He just turned 30 this past July. I won’t get a kiss unless I ask for one. Days could go by. He is so touchy, impatient, rude, and moody. Acts just like a moody teenager with the eye rolling, huffing and puffing, tantrums, gaslighting, lying, etc. He is a whirlwhing of drama but he is a good worker, can make me feel safe sometimes when he is sweet, and he is a great provider.
I am annoyed with his sarcasm, need for attention, and just rude sense of humor and behavior. he is honestly a big fucking jerk that complains everyday about everything. I used to be so sweet and patient but now i am at wits end. I remember when we first started dating I would talk (which was rare) and he would snore so loud purposely in a joking way to say I was boring. Then if I got annoyed he would say he is joking, but never went out his way to actually ask what I was thinking.
Needless to say the make up sex is just very hot. We are very opposite. My sun, venus, and mars are in Aquarius. Mercury is in Pisces. My rising is in Sagittarius but my moon is in the first house and my venus squares pluto. I am emotionally sensitive, and he is a fucking brute.

My experience with a narcissist who was an emotional abuser and child abuser, compulsive liar, probably bipolar (fits diagnosis descriptions and mother displays same behaviours)…
He had pluto opposite venus, jupiter conjunct venus (6* orb)
IMPORTANT: this hasn’t been mentioned but I read that NN (Rahu) conjunct Sun in Vedic astrology is an important indicator for people who are incredibly deceptive or have a dual ego — to me the description sounded exactly like this person and a possible indicator of bipolar disorder (not everyone with bipolar is deceptive or abusive, so this would pertain only to the negative manifestation of the symptoms). The conjunction in his chart is really tight, with less that a 1* orb. This was exactly squared by another really tight conjunction between Uranus and Saturn, also a 1* orb.
My mother has NPD and she has Pluto conjunct Venus in the 8th house square to Uranus – very difficult personality to live with, she is very cruel and abusive and hates change, and is sometimes violent despite her advancing years.
Both my abusive exes (one diagnosed Mixed PD with Narc traits) have Pluto/Venus aspects, one opposite and one square. The one diagnosed is opposite and that relationship was far more seriously damaging. Thanks for writing this article, I had a hunch too.
I found moon square neptun are pretty clear sign of covert narcs.. they are delusiononal about themselves.. and they are never never wrong. whether you deserve it or its not that bad what they did, or they simply did not do it,or you are too sensitive.whenver they fucked up it was not their fault but everyone elses. I found they never take resposiblity for own actions and that is a real mind fuck. especially when they appear very nice in the beginning and manifest as complete lunatics!!
I have stellium of Venus conjunct both Pluto and Uranus but I am not a narc, not even one bit. Venus is my chart ruler too. Even I am more like an empath. May be because this Stellium stay in 12th.
So Venus, Pluto, Uranus are not the rule for NPD.
if one’s life lived on earth correlates to that document in the celestial body’s but seem to be narcissistic, nope only transits.
If the person and others will know if there is no resemblance in the two, this person is narcissist and risk the thread which connect the soul and and its vehicle of purpose, being cut. Oblivious (hades)
hell torment. sad sad sad .
but dont look at astrology. smdh
The male friend I knew born 10/22/1987 was a Libra Sun, Moon, and Mars in 12th House and had Venus conjunct Pluto in Scorpio in the 1st House. Also Scorpio Mercury conjunct his Pluto. These aspects created a very charismatic Scorpionic sexy appearance.
Unfortunately, he fit the common Narcissist traits that involved his focus on satisfying “HIS” needs first. He was a major manipulator, a liar, a “Gaslighter”.
It was a very volatile relationship between us. His Scorpio Pluto squared my Venus in Aquarius. He became VERY controlling, jealous, stalked me in person and online. He created so much emotional chaos in my life I had to cut ties with. He stalked me an additional 3 years after it ended.
He was very skilled at seducing women, Libra flirting, “using” women sexually, and then discarding them. He always blamed the women as “the problem”, never himself. He never took any responsibility for “HIS” behavior in relationships or friendships.
His Venus in 1st House made him obsessed with “his” appearance and how “he” looked. But it was the Venus conjunct Pluto in Scorpio that was most harmful toward me and other women.
I found out he had this secret sexual life (Mars in 12th House). He admitted to watching porn, had “sex” technique books in his guest bedroom, was having multiple sexual relations with women, and one guy on a rotating schedule. He showed me he had an extra large-sized zip lock bag full of condoms. (about 100)
With me, too often he behaved overtly sexual toward me in public. He frequently exhibited inappropriate sexual behavior. For example, at our college, it had a giant chess set in the student lounge. We posed in a photo and he held one of the giant chess pieces in front of him like it was a giant penis, and pointed it at me as if he was trying to rape me with it. I was mortified and shocked.
At the college gym, he showed me he had an erection in his shorts and was thrusting it at me publically in the gym. He played it off as a “joke” but I always felt mortified by his surprise inappropriate sexual behavior.
I think he behaved that way because he liked to make me feel uncomfortable. He like that feeling of “power” that he could make people react to him emotionally.
But the worst was when I ended my friendship with him. I didn’t want to be another one of his discarded “conquests”. I could see how he used women. I ended things before I was raped or something.
That’s when he became my stalker, first online. I blocked him, but he had a whole bag of tricks. 2nd social media accounts, he used mutual friends to “spy” on me, he got mutual friends to add him to group messages so he could “get around” my Facebook blocking.
When I refused to communicate with him, he started showing up “in-person” at places he knew I would be at. He stalked me from 2016 till early 2020.
COVID lockdowns were the one thing that stopped him. I was able to isolate myself and go unnoticed behind a mask. I’m guessing the pandemic caused him to focus on much bigger issues than me.
His Pluto conjunct Venus in Scorpio was extremely potent and toxic. For me, it felt like I was running from the Scorpionic mafia. Be afraid, be very afraid of guys with Venus conjunct Pluto.
My cousin’s wife has a natal Leo Sun in 7th house conjunct her natal Leo Pluto in the 8th house. She’s always been very self-focused.
Pluto in Capricorn has been transiting her first house and is currently conjunct her Chiron. (This is the 2nd pass.) I just spent the day with her, my cousin and one of their sons. SHE IS GOING INSANE with tension, anger, blaming her husband, and non-stop talking about all of her past problems and how she needs to “reconcile her ‘parts'” (a la Richard Schwartz) .
She’s never wanted to know anything about astrology, but I’m going to send her some info I’ve accumulated by snail mail (they live 45 minutes from me and are my only relatives nearby).
I have studied astrology for many years and it’s really silly for anyone to think that a single aspect can indicate something such as npd
This is an interesting topic. I was not familiar with NPD .. actually dislike labels , but after becoming involved with someone who followed all the patterns and gradual stages I now see has been written about : love bombing, charming, huge grandiosity, criticism, manipulation , cruelty , sexual domination and discard .. I was curious about his chart. Leo Sun, Libra rising with Pluto on Ascendant ( exactly on my Descendent) Moon square Saturn, Pluto square Mars, Sun square Uranus . Many aspects to Chiron also. Not a happy person, a loner too , but incredibly disciplined with marshal arts, qigong ..projects a perfect image to the world at large but angriest most volatile person I’ve ever met.
