I love beautiful tarot and oracle cards, so for each chapter of each novel I write, I draw a card from one of my decks and read it intuitively. For this chapter, I drew 2 of Swords – Shadowscapes Tarot. See the bottom of the page for information about the novel.

Seeing Too Much (Chapter 9 ), The Lost Teachings of Dead Monks
I’ve chosen the Two of Swords from the Shadowscapes Tarot, one of my favorite decks for its beautiful artwork.
To me, twos are always about an opposition of ideas and resolving it. The Two of Swords typically shows a blindfolded woman with a sword in each hand. In this deck, the card shows a gender-neutral figure in a black, hooded robe standing at the base of a tree. I see Lilah in the figure, holding two long, curved swords, crossed in front of her and looking at the point where they cross.
Behind her is a swan offering a flower. Another swan perches in the tree above her. She doesn’t seem to notice either, or the heart that hangs from the branch above her, just out of her line of sight.
Lilah has her hands full and has no room to reach for the offering of love above her. She doesn’t even realize it’s there. She’s too busy making excuses for Charlie, either for what he’s supposed to be (a “good man”) or for what she doesn’t think she deserves. She can’t accept anyone new in her life until she lets go of one sword or the other.
Law of Attraction, magical library, ancient artifact, witches and librarians. Both Lilah and Charlie try to use the Law of Attraction to get what they want but manifest their fears instead.
