Lorna’s Weekly Link Love – Uplifters, Food Conspiracies, and Recipes

Okay, computer’s out of the shop but it’s going to take me at least another week to reset all my efficiency tools and re-organize the mess of data that was rescued.  Thankfully, I have a cloud backup, but all my presets must be reaccomplished and my programs must be reloaded.  Ugh.  So, excuses, excuses.  I’m late with my link love.

This week’s featured book is The Long-Awaited Honest-to-God Secret to Being Happy.

The last few weeks have been rough with all the political haggling, the usual liberal-vs-conservative crap that just polarizes more and more,  Chick-Fil-A debates, and the Aurora Theatre Massacre at the DARK KNIGHT RISES showing.  We need some happy news so here are a few links to lift your heart:

Not so uplifting is this survey on What Americans Earn.

Are you fed up with politics yet?  I am.  Stop Polarizing Talkpretty much sums it up for me.  That applies to Pagans as well who seem to be ignoring the bigger problems in our society in favor of criticizing each other.   Star Foster, as usual, does a good job with the “Fat Pagan” debate in My Fat Is My Business.  If you’ve kept up with my health experiments here on this blog, you know how frustrated I get with non-medical (and sometimes medical) personnel who want to tell me exactly how to fix this and that in my body and yet they know nothing about my particular medical issues or the hundreds of pages of spreadsheet data I’ve collected in figuring out what works for me.  I think most people focus on the problems of others because doing so allows them to NOT focus on their own problems.

If there are real conspiracies out there–and I do believe there are–one of the greatest conspiracies is with food.   I think Genetically Modified foods will have incredible, devastating consequences on Americans in the next 50 years.  This article on the Top 10 GMOs to avoid barely scrapes the surface. One of the biggest arguments I ever had with my ex-husband was when I told him a news story I’d heard on NPR in the 1995 time frame about bovine growth hormone and Monsanto.  He argued that I’d clearly heard it wrong because surely that kind of nonsense would be labeled on the milk we fed our children.  Yeah, right.  Producers of GMO don’t want food labels that tell everything. Monsanto seems to be calling the shots here as the new 2012 Farm Bill demonstrates.

And some new recipes that caught my eye:

Spaghetti Squash Casserole  — A little heavy on the cheese for my protocol but perfect for an upcoming gathering.

Yam Chips —  This fits my protocol just fine.  I only have to limit the number I eat!

Sour Cherry Acai & Chocolate Chip Bars (grain-free, dairy-free) — from The Spunky Coconut, one of my fave gluten-free sites
