Powerhouse Rituals: One Reason this Spring Is So Bright

I can give you a laundry list of energetic and astrological reasons why this Spring 2008 is so powerful and so good for launching yourself in new directions, but I’ll focus on the answer to just one question:

How can this full moon be in Aries and the first of the solar new year?  I thought the solar new year began on January 1st.

We have lots of New Years–and I think theyr’e great.  We LIKE focusing on new beginnings rather than on endings, don’t we?  And if we do focus on an ending, we like to know there’s a wonderful new beginning just beyond the midnight.

For example, we have the new year that begins with at Samhain.  Some celebrate a new year that begins at the Winter Solstice with the Sun in 1-degree Capricorn.  We have the mundane new year of January 1st, which has nothing to do with the sun, just the calendar’s numbers.  We have the Chinese new year.  We also have the solar new year.

The solar new year begins at Spring, with the Sun moving into Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.  The first new moon of the solar year is the first new moon following the first day of Spring, and that new moon is now (as of this posting) at 98% full.  The Sun will be moving into Taurus on Sunday, but for now, it’s in still in Aries.

On Sunday the 20th, the Sun will be in Taurus and the Moon will be in the sign of Scorpio, renowned for intensity and regeneration.  This makes for a very powerful Taurus-Scorpio combination, and the moon it all happens under is that new moon come to fruition, the first new moon of the solar new year.

When the moon is full again, on 19 May, the Sun will still be in Taurus and the Moon will again be in Scorpio.  Yes, the powerhouse combo will repeat (truly a blue moon that doesn’t happen again until 2027).

So if you’re looking to incorporate some intense regenerative change into your rituals and break free of what oppresses you and claim your truth to move forward with, you might wish to incorporate those intentions into your rituals and prayers this weekend.  At the next full moon, it’ll be time for the next level of reclaiming yourself.
